During the internship in the study programme Crop Production, students acquire practical skills in the production processes of the crop production sector, gaining familiarity with farm specialization, crop cultivation technologies, plant protection, fertilization, and resource planning. The internship fosters the ability to analyse the efficiency of agricultural operations, assess risks, and develop proposals for improving crop production by applying acquired theoretical knowledge in practice.
Internships included in the study programme:
1. Qualification Internship I (8 weeks):
• Qualification Internship I provides students with the opportunity to gain practical experience in the basic principles of crop production in a real-world agricultural setting. During the internship, students become familiar with farm management, crop production technologies, soil and crop assessment, and plant fertilization and protection systems, as well as participate in the planning and implementation of agrotechnical measures. Skills in analysing production and economic data, assessing risks, and making informed decisions are developed.
• Internship duration - 2nd semester, full-time studies.
2. Qualification Internship II (6 weeks):
• Qualification Internship II provides students with in-depth practical experience in crop production, harvesting, primary processing, storage, and marketing processes. During the internship, students learn about assessing crop readiness, planning harvesting operations, and analysing losses, as well as land improvement and soil cultivation measures. Skills are developed to analyse the organization of product sales and economic indicators, including product sales, costs, revenue, and the use of EU support. As a result of the internship, students strengthen their ability to make informed decisions for the sustainable development of a crop production enterprise, based on practical experience and data analysis.
• Internship duration – 3rd semester, full-time studies.
3. Qualification Internship III (2 weeks):
Qualification Internship III focuses on strengthening the professional skills of a crop production specialist; students analyse the farm’s crop production sector and develop crop rotation, fertilization, and plant protection plans. Students develop the ability to independently evaluate the effectiveness of farm operations and justify decisions regarding the farm’s development. The experience gained during the internship and the internship report prepared may be used in the development of the qualification paper.
Internship duration – 4th semester, full-time studies.
The internship can be completed in any region of Latvia. The host company must have a well-developed crop production operation that carries out the full crop production cycle—from planning and implementing agrotechnical measures to harvesting, storage, and marketing. The company must provide an opportunity to learn about production, economic, and organizational processes. It is desirable that the company utilize modern technologies and principles of sustainable management.
